It must be noted with satisfaction that vigilance continues to be a strong attribute of some of the more exemplary citizens of our country. Stanisław Dygat, while on a visit in America, chanced to notice that the programme of the San Francisco Film Festival featured the Polish film ‘See You Tomorrow’. Touched by a premonition (a Polish film in the USA?), he at once reported this fact to the film’s director Morgenstern. How very fittingly! For Morgenstern had no knowledge of that event and, scared as he was, he rushed to Kawalerowicz, Head of the Film Studio. Kawalerowicz was shocked by the news which he, too, was hearing for the first time. Other members of the Studio, Hager and Konwicki, when questioned about that occurrence, swore it was not their doing. Their assurances were given credence.
ZYGMUNT KAŁUŻYŃSKI, TWO FILMS, TWO GENERATIONS [DWA FILMY, DWA POKOLENIA], ‘FILM’, 1960, NO. 21
‘See You Tomorrow’ is a romantic melodrama about unattainable love, meeting the emotional needs of the public who turned up in crowds. (…) The film is also interesting for a student of morals as it recreates the style, the ‘dash’ of the young generation (…) of the years 1956-57. The capital here is the Tri- City, the music – jazz made in Sopot, the intellectual centre – a small theatre a la Bim-Bom, the hero – Zbyszek Cybulski himself, a living symbol of that generation. Prevailing here is the characteristic yearning for the great world, symbolised by the impossible love for a woman from a foreign country and by a foreign-made car, which anyway is the property of the local Voivodeship Committee of the Polish United Workers Party.
