FELIKS FALK, I HAVE NOT MADE ‘TOP DOG 3’; TALK WITH KONRAD J. ZARĘBSKI [NIE NAKRĘCIŁEM ‘WODZIREJA 3’; ROZMOWA Z KONRADEM J. ZARĘBSKIM,], ‘KINO’ 2005. NO. 10
One of the reasons why I reached for ‘The Collector’ is the fact that the ups and downs of the protagonist depict a certain social situation which arouses my concern (…). Wherever we look around we see how people wronged as a result of calls for moral purity, shouting slogans and the accompanying propaganda. I wanted ‘The Collector’ to reflect the climate and atmosphere of the moment we are living in.
KONRAD J. ZARĘBSKI, THE COLLECTOR [KOMORNIK], ‘KINO’, 2005, NO. 10
The dynamic, and occasionally directly rapacious film from Feliks Falk resembles in many ways the works of the cinema of moral anxiety – a trend the director had co-authored. More than this, Ludwik Bohme reminds us of the hero of ‘Top Dog’ not only because he has the same first name. Like the latter, Bohme is a representative of a social group who, aiming at a quick rise up the social ladder, adopted a certain lifestyle. The two protagonists live some 30 years apart, but have methods of career-making changed so much in the period?
