[DIALOGUE FROM THE FILM]
Monika: Crowds of young people have gathered outside the building of the Ministry of Health expressing their solidarity with those involved in the sit-in strike. As yet, however, no decision has been taken whether the sick will be granted some accommodation. Voices: Tolerance! Tolerance! Nina: Oh no, I’ll flip over, Jola! This priest with us here is really fantastic. Tell me, are you really with that queer? Monika: Yes. Nina: Then how you’re making it? Jola: That’s none of your fucking business.
BARBARA HOLLENDER, SOCIAL OUTCASTS [WYRZUCENI NA MARGINES], ‘RZECZPOSPOLITA’, 1994, NO. 75
The film deserves attention if only for the topic it tackles. Łazarkiewicz has made a film about the fate of HIV-positives treated by the normal community as social outcasts.(…) It is based on a real event which took place in 1991. This film may be perceived as a voice about intolerance, about ignorance and lack of human solidarity with the suffering. Łazarkiewicz shows a self-inciting crowd and suggests how to change attitudes and find the compassion to be able to break out of that crowd.
