PEOPLE OF WARSAW IN HUNT FOR TREASURE [WARSZAWIACY ZDOBYWAJĄ SKARB], ‘DZIENNIK LUDOWY’, 10 FEB 1949

Last Sunday the first Polish film comedy ‘Treasure’ was premiered in Warsaw, starring Szaflarska, Duszyński, Dymsza and Sempoliński. About 10 a. m. thousands were setting off already from the suburbs to besiege four cinemas. By 11 o’clock winding queues were forming that were several hundred metres long. One had the impression that the whole city centre was encircled with a live cordon. As a result, the film was seen by over 18 thousand viewers.

They accuse the producer
that the plot is inflated.
All those moans make me angry
What more on earth can you squeeze in?

Two weddings. A bomb in the wall.
A fat scoundrel. Complications.
Two songs. Working spirit.
A thin scoundrel (that makes two).

Journey. Work. Laugh. Bad luck.
Kisses and sighs.
Collapse. Digging up.
A brawl. Bomb in wall.

So I am really annoyed
that all I hear is grumbling.
