RAFAŁ WOJACZEK, FEMININITY III [KOBIECOŚĆ III]
I don’t know if you noticed that the word ‘kobieta’ [woman]
Naturally rhymes with the word ‘poeta’ [poet]
I don’t know if you pondered this splendid quality
I don’t know if it struck
You with such clarity
That’s all I know (in simple syllogisms
I declare
that wisdom of mine): an expert on soiled underwear…
ANDRZEJ KOŁODYŃSKI, SUCH A PORTRAIT… [TAKI PORTRET…], ‘KINO’, 1999, NO. 11
A poet’s rebellion, even if it is directed against concrete things, contains a metaphysical core. (…) And this is what Majewski emphasizes in the film, reducing the realities of Wojaczek’s times to a surrealistic metaphor. The picture of the world in his black-and-white frames is stylized to the maximum (…). Another asset is an air of vagueness which continues as if against… the character of narration. Majewski succeeded in throwing a bridge between the day present and the space of People’s Poland, which makes it possible that the figure of the rebel can be accepted by the viewer of today -young and not at all free from rebellious feelings.
