ANDRZEJ JAKIMOWSKI, SKY ABOVE YOUR HEAD; TALK WITH JERZY WÓJCIK [NIEBO NAD GŁOWĄ; ROZ MO WA Z JERZYM WÓJ CI KIEM], ‘RZECZPOSPOLITA’, 2003, NO. 249
I construed ‘Squint Your Eyes’ in such a way that my 9-yearold daughter could also see the film and find answers to questions troubling the young mind about the essence of time, passing away, death… I did not want to pile up incomprehensible concepts but to stir the imagination.
TADEUSZ SOBOLEWSKI, YOU DON’T HAVE TO RACE SO MUCH [NIE MUSICIE TAK PĘDZIĆ], ‘GAZETA WYBORCZA’, 24 X 2003
Jakimowski wants to tell his stories in spite of the popular cinematic principle purporting that we are all slaves of real-life plots (…). In the cinema, like in music, the events may happen to be monotonous, and yet they are fascinating (…). That’s why the author throws us off trails – what is most important and most interesting occurs between his heroes. Contrary to appearances in this story it is not Jan (a creation from Zbigniew Zamachowski) who is an escapist and outsider – these features characterise the little girl-thief in his charge (…). The pretty final scene functions as a lesson in observation. Perhaps we shouldn’t worry so much that we are going to miss something important if we do not race together with others. What is really important is already inside us.
